Local Scholarships

**Please follow the instructions very carefully to ensure that you complete the application completely and correctly. **

**Please note that there may be changes on the Cover Letter, as there may be scholarships that are offered and not listed, or scholarships that are no longer offered on this list. **


Applications are due Friday, March 15th, 2024 with all required materials to be distributed to scholarship providers.


**Updates on Deadlines will be provided in a timely manner, but typically the Local Scholarship Application opens in late January or early February, and decisions on recipients are given in May at the Scholarship Awards Ceremony. Due dates vary annually, but the application is typically due in March or early April.**

Must have attended Blue Ridge Elementary School. Additional Essay: Ruritans embody the model of fellowship, goodwill, and community service. Your essay should include how you demonstrate these qualities in your school, church, or community. You may wish to include any personal circumstances that may influence the awarding of our scholarship to you. Your essay should contain at least 250 words.

Christopher Newton Cobbler Memorial Scholarship (Patrick County Master Gardeners Association)

Must be pursuing a college degree in agriculture, botany, ecology, environmental science, forestry, greenhouse management, horticulture, permaculture, landscape design, soil and water conservation, or turf management.


Delta Kappa Gamma

Female student pursuing a degree in education


Doris Wood Memorial Scholarship

Must have attended Patrick Springs Primary School


Dr. Houston B. Roberson Scholarship

(Additional Essay Required) Prompt: How do you embrace differences among groups and individuals based on ethnicity, race, age, socioeconomic status, gender, exceptionalities, language, religion, sexual orientation, and geographical areas? Consider the community in which you live (Patrick County), describe an initiative, program or idea that would provide an opportunity for everyone to come together and celebrate diversity.


Excellence in Nursing

Must plan on pursuing a nursing degree at Patrick & Henry Community College. Priority consideration will be given on a need’s basis.


Gail Harding Memorial Scholarship

Priority given to a student who may be interested in a career in journalism, writing or teaching English.

Patrick County Farm Bureau

Student must be planning to attend a 2 or 4-year college with a focus on agriculture. Open to the fields of Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Wildlife, Biology, or other fields related to Agriculture.


Patrick County Fire & Rescue

Applicant and/or parent/guardian must be a member of a Patrick County Fire Dept or Rescue Squad (Include name of person affiliated, department/squad, posltion(s)/rank, and years of service in Add. Info Section).


Patrick County High School Class of '71

Include parent/ grandparent PCHS graduation year in Additional Info.


Patrick County High School Class of '75

Include parent/ grandparent PCHS graduation year in Additional Info.


Patrick County High School Class of '76

Include parent/ grandparent PCHS graduation year in Additional Info.


Patrick County Historical Society: Henry G. Ayers Memorial Scholarship

Students are required to include an additional one-page essay about: The importance of studying or learning something about local history.


Patrick County Retired Teachers

Must be planning to study education.


Patrick County Sheriff's Office

No additional requirements


Patrick Springs Ruritan Club

Students must have attended Patrick Springs or Hardin Reynolds.


Perry Family Scholarship

Required to write a 1,000-word essay about any historical topic they wish. I would favor students in the Dan River District who attended BRES.


Providence UMC Scholarship

One Scholarship will go to a female student and one Scholarship will go to a male student.


Ross Harbour UMC Scholarship

Priority given to students with unmet financial need.


Smith River Church of Brethren Scholarship

No additional requirements


Stuart Athletics Booster Club

One scholarship will go to a female student and one scholarship will go to a male student. Preference given to graduating athletes from Stuart Elementary.

Different scholarships with different requirements; Student who has been a Superintendent Scholar since 6th grade; Student pursuing a degree in education or whose parent is an educator at Patrick County Public Schools; Student pursuing a trade.
