*Good Morning Patrick County. As we enter Memorial Day weekend.  It is right and proper that we honor those who sacrificed their lives for the protection of our citizens and for the freedom of others.  Men and women with the upmost honor and bravery gave their lives to impart the values of our country to others.  Those values are constantly under fire.  The call to young men and women to serve our great republic is constant and the best of us answer the call.  Today we honor the fallen and respect those that persevere.

*Attention All:  We have extra doughnuts for sale in room #146 today. Prices are $8 for regular and $9 for special; see Ms. Gibson or Ms. Boles.

*Seniors:  If you have not seen Mrs. Rakes in room #123 about your Chromebook, you must do so today.

*If you would like to buy a bracelet to support team Rachel, come by Michelle Collins’s room. Bracelets are $3.00 and will also be sold during third lunch.

*If you would like to make a donation for the team Rachel ribbon, come by Mrs. Rose’s room #18 or Mrs. J. Stanley’s room #175.

*Seniors:  You cannot drive to the picnic. You will be riding a bus. Only those with approved notes by Mr. Cox and co-op students are allowed to drive.

May 16, 2018:

*Congratulations to Garrett Worley and Bennett Reeder for winning the Piedmont District boys’ tennis doubles tournament championship last night. They defeated three teams on their way to claiming the championship. They defeated Martinsville 6-0, 6-0 in the quarterfinals. Then, they defeated previously undefeated Halifax in the semifinals 1-6, 6-4, and 6-1 before defeating Franklin County in the championship 6-1 and 6-4. Congratulation and great job guys!

The meeting will be informational.  Last year's teammates will give a short presentation, and the meeting will last until 5:00 P. M., but all may stay until the activity bus runs. *The high school will offer athletic physicals, Thursday, May 10 for any student who plans to participate in athletics next school year. Students can pick up physical forms in the front office. Students need to return the completed and signed physical form, along with $10, to the front office no later than today.

Under a wind advisory, the Lady Cougars won in both singles (Gracen Baliles 8-5, Helen Dawson 8-3, Ashton Young 8-2, and Kim Luethe 8-4) and doubles (Helen Dawson/Ashton Young 8-8 with a 7 point tie breaker 7-2 and Kim Luethe/Emily Wood 8-4) competitions. Congrats to girls’ tennis!

*Congratulations to the boys’ middle school baseball team for coming back after a one run deficit in the last inning to win 4-2 over Franklin County yesterday. Way to go boys!

*Congratulations to the middle school girls’ soccer team for defeating Halifax last night 6-3. Great job ladies! The Lady Cougars are 3-1 so far this season.

*Congratulations to the Pride of Patrick County and the Patrick County High School Concert Band for earning the distinguished title of Virginia Honor Band. Band programs in Virginia must receive a superior rating at VBODA State Marching Festival and Concert Festival; less than 5% of bands statewide are able to accomplish this goal each year. The bands have worked very hard this year to earn the title and to bring this recognition to our school and community.

*All first semester JROTC Cadets wishing to attend the Military Ball on April 28, please see Sergeant First Class Melton or Lieutenant Colonel Wagner before April 16.

*Varsity boys’ soccer won their opening match of the season vs. Chatham High School 4-0. Burke Gonzalez started the Cougars off with a set piece to score our first goal of the season. Jordan Dalton scored two more goals and Luis Ramirez scored the fourth goal. Gonzalo Vargas had two assists and Jordan Dalton had one assist. Efren Huerta posted a shut out with three saves.
